Police officer rides 977 miles in 19 days for charity
An Englefield Green police officer returned this week from a 977 mile John O'Groats to Lands End cycle ride for charity.
PCSO Carole Lawford, along with friend Gemma Stilwell, cycled for 19 days solid after setting off from John O'Groats on Tuesday August 5, and expects the trip to raise more than £1,800 for charity Water Aid, who help provide clean water and wells in Africa.
She said: "It was pretty tough, but I feel remarkably alive after it, if half a stone lighter.
"There were moments when I saw another hill and just thought "oh no" but on the whole it was wonderful - Britain is a beautiful place, I just wish it had rained slightly less."
She added: "It was wonderful to get to the end - and I was really pleased becuase two of my colleagues, PC Ian Scott and PCSO Paul Arrow, had travelled down to watch me finish."
PCSO Lawford said she has been training for the ride since February. She explained: "I used to cycle around Englefield Green on patrol, but when I started training I would cycle from my home in Horsell all the way to work."
She said they have already raised nearly £1500, and have had a further £300 - £400 pledged.
