Scientists from Egham hope to get permission to start the UK's first biological control measures to counter the spread of Japanese knotweed.
The plant, which grows with astonishing speed, has become the bane of thousands of allotment owners, the root system being such that it can regenerate from very little remaining material if pulled from the ground, and can even force its way through concrete, affecting building sites.
Thorpe Lea Primary School in Egham got a boost to its health education when Sainsbury delivered a free kit to allow pupils to grow their own food.
The kit, delivered by store manager of the Staines branch,Peter Shaw, on Wednesday last week (1) includes gardening equipment such as trowels and watering cans.
The music department of Royal Holloway, University of London in Egham will be hosting a free reception on Wednesday October 15 from 6.30pm to celebrate its new status as an All Steinway School.
The achievement marks the end of a three-year programme to acquire all its pianos from renowned company Steinway and Sons.
A book, CD and video stall will be held on Friday 17 and Saturday 18 October in the United Church of Egham in High Street.
On Friday the stall will run from 6.30pm and 9pm and on Saturday it will run from 8.30am to 12.30pm.
