Strodes dance students put on a show

Strode's College Dance Department performed Eclectic Fusion 2 at the Jubilee International High School Theatre on March 18 and 19.

The 43 Dance students entertained with a variety of Jazz, Ballet and Tap pieces along with extracts from "The Boyfriend" by Sandy Wilson and "Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens" by Bill Russell and Janet Hood.

The performances are part of examination preparation and assessment for students on the A/S Level Dance, Exploring Dance and Btec National Award in Performing Arts (Dance) courses.

Alongside the students' performance pieces they also undertake production roles including box office management, marketing, costume design/management and lighting.

Dance was first introduced at Strode's in 2006. The Department has rapidly expanded and now offers 4 different qualifications: A/S Level Dance, Btec National Award in Performing Arts (Dance), Exploring Dance and Dance Leaders.

This is addition to the extensive Expressive and Creative Arts provision at Strode's that includes well established courses such as Drama and Theatre Arts, Music and Music Technology and 6 different Art and Design Advanced level courses. Next year, Strode's, in conjunction with The Jubilee International High School, is introducing a BTEC in Performing Arts.

We'd like to hear from you.
