Politics comes to open day in Egham

Posted by Russell Butt on Apr 22, 09 01:08 PM in Clubs/societies

The Department of Laws at Strodes College will be holding its annual 'Many Questions' event at the Literary Institute, High Street, Egham, on Friday 24th April 2009 at 2pm.

This educational event, for Law, Politics, and Citizenship, students, involves Baroness Sharpe of Guildford (Liberal Democrats), Paul Greenwood (Labour) and Philip Hammond MP (Conservative). Chairing the event will be Dr Peter Jepson (Head of the Department of Laws).

The logic behind the event is to give law, politics, and citizenship students, an opportunity to ask questions of politicians. It is the first time that we have had a Member of the House of Lords present, which should enable a wider range of questions from students and/or member of the public.

While the students are not briefed beforehand, we can expect questions on topics such as:
Who is to blame for the world wide recession?
Will President Obama make a difference?
Should money be given to students, studying at University, rather than the banks?
Should the House of Lords be elected?
Should more power be given to the elected Members of the EU Parliament?

We'd like to hear from you.
